The topic of working for free is a huge topic when it comes to designers making things for clients. A lot of designers think that you shouldn’t work for free as working for free doesn’t pay the bills. I understand that perspective, but it’s not always that simple. What if they are situations where working for free isn’t such a bad idea after all? What if the ticket to you breaking into UX or some other design profession is you doing some version of free work? Today, I’d like to answer that question on a lighthearted note by presenting you the Should You Work For Free Chart by Jessica Hische. This chart gives you many hypotheticals that can help you figure out for yourself if the work you are about to do is something you should you do for free! Enjoy!
